Swiss is extending its partnership with AirPortr to Zurich airport and to any destination in Switzerland. This baggage service was already offered to customers departing from Geneva airport since last October.

Travelers departing from or arriving at Zurich Airport can now take advantage of AirPortr’s “smart baggage” services to have their luggage picked up and checked in on the way out. The service is also available for delivery to their home or hotel on the return journey. The service can be booked on the Swiss website.

All formalities handled by AirPortr

For Randel Darby, CEO of AirPortr Technologies, “the extension of AirPortr’s offer at Zurich airport is a fantastic step forward. We expect consumer demand in Switzerland to continue to grow strongly as intermodal baggage-free travel to and from the airport is easier than ever.

By selecting the AirPortr option, passengers can leave their luggage at their home or hotel up to 23 hours before departure. The traveler simply checks in online. The boarding pass is checked when the baggage is picked up.

Luggage is sealed to ensure safe transport to the airport where it undergoes the usual security checks. Once at their destination, passengers collect their luggage in the usual way.

Promoting sustainable mobility

On return, passengers complete a simple online customs declaration. This allows AirPortr to clear the luggage before delivery. Customers are kept informed by e-mail and SMS at each step of the process. They can track their luggage at any time through AirPortr’s web application, and receive digital copies of the airline’s luggage receipts.

The AirPortr service allows travelers to favor public transportation since they travel without luggage. At the airport, they also save time by going directly through security. On their return to Zurich, they can go directly to their final destination.

A recent study by AirPortr showed that about 66% of the users of this service switched from using a private car to public transport. The price of the AirPortr service depends on the pick-up and delivery location. Prices range from CHF 39 for two pieces of luggage in Zurich and Geneva to CHF 69 in areas further away from the airport.

Pre-order meal option since June 1

In addition, since June 1, Swiss has been offering Business Class passengers the option of choosing the meal of their choice free of charge online before departure. In addition to the main courses of the Swiss Taste of Switzerland culinary program, four additional courses are available on long-haul flights. Orders can be placed up to 36 hours before departure and are possible on departure of Geneva and Zurich.
