In order to develop the offer of day and night Intercity services, an agreement was signed on March 17 between Jean-Marie Djebbari, Minister of Ecological Transition in charge of Transport, and Christophe Fanichet, CEO of Sncf Voyageurs. The agreement, which runs until 2031, covers some 80 daily trains carrying 8.4 million passengers a year, with a traffic growth target of 20% over the period.

To achieve this goal, a policy will first be implemented with the launch of a fourth Nantes-Bordeaux round trip per day in early 2022, followed next year by a third Nantes-Lyon round trip. In the meantime, in 2026, additional daily frequencies on the Paris-Orléans-Limoges-Toulouse and Paris-Clermont-Ferrand routes. Other new daytime frequencies and night-time services may be added ” no later than the 2024 annual service

Improving comfort and regularity of trains

The second growth lever is to improve comfort in order to make passengers want to (re)take the train. The agreement also includes satisfaction indicators based on service quality, train punctuality, train comfort, etc. New rolling stock will be brought into service in 2026 on the Paris-Orléans-Limoges-Toulouse and Paris-Clermont-Ferrand lines, in parallel with the increase in the number of services. These projects with the SNCF will not prevent these routes from being opened up to competition in order to comply with the 2018 rail law, which provides for the gradual opening up to competition of the lines on which these regional balance trains (TETs) run. Old Corail trains given a flashy pink makeover will be given a new lease of life on April 11 to serve the new Ouigo Train Classique service that the rail company will be offering on the Paris-Lyon and Paris-Nantes routes. One and two return trips will be operated each day, before increasing to five daily rotations in June at the start of the summer season. The SNCF intends to compete with Blabacar and its carpooling and bus transport services (formerly known as Ouibus, which has been taken over by the SNCF), with tickets priced between 10 and 30 euros, but with journey times that are a bit like those of the TGV: between 4 hours 45 minutes and 5 hours 15 minutes for Paris-Lyon, and between 3 hours 30 minutes and 4 hours 15 minutes for Paris-Nantes, depending on the two routes proposed, one via Le Mans, the other via St-Pierre-des-Corps.
