Next December, Quito will experience a small revolution. The Ecuadorian capital will indeed be equipped with a subway whose route reaches 22 kilometers. This route will allow to cross the destination from North to South in 34 minutes. Each train will be composed of six cars. It will be 109 meters long, with a capacity of 1,230 passengers and a speed of 38 km/h.
The arrival of the metro will also improve Quito’s positioning as a MICE destination, as the route will pass near the Congress Center.
The new metro will connect Quitumbe to El Labrador, for a total of 15 stations. These stations will be strategically located in relation to the capital’s tourist spots (La Carolina, El Ejido, La Alameda…), but also for business travelers. Indeed, the project should also promote the attractiveness of Quito for trade fairs and conventions. ” This advance will also benefit Quito’s positioning as a MICE destination, since the El Labrador station is located near the Quito Metropolitan Convention Center, facilitating access for participants to the various congresses, conventions, trade fairs and exhibitions,” emphasize Quito Turismo officials. This first underground transportation system in Ecuador will also contribute to the sustainability of the destination.

I’m Michelle, and I love to travel. As a former hotel expert for one of the world’s largest hotel chains, I’ve stayed in nearly every type of room imaginable (including many that were not so desirable!). Nowadays, I am fortunate enough to be able to explore the world on my own terms. From international flights to learning different languages, there is nothing too far out of reach!
