What: Cancun and New York City Are Top Thanksgiving Travel Destinations
After analyzing 2.3 million travel itineraries, Allianz Travel Insurance revealed that the top Thanksgiving travel destinations for Americans are Cancun, Mexico, and New York City. Other top international travel destinations are San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico; Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; London; and Montego Bay, Jamaica. Other top domestic travel destinations include Seattle, Boston, Atlanta and Dallas-Fort Worth.
Why It Matters: Americans Are Gradually Returning to Favorite Destinations
Mexico beach destinations continue to be a popular choice for holiday travel and reflect that we are still living with pandemic-era constraints. Cancun, Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta were the top international Thanksgiving destinations both this year and last year, though in pre-pandemic years, one or two of the top spots typically went to Paris and/or London.
Whereas those cities did not make it into the top 10 last year, this year, London took fourth place and Paris took eighth place, showing that some Americans are returning to their favorite destinations across the pond.
On the domestic front, the return of New York City in the top domestic spot (after losing out to Seattle for the first time last year) confirms the revived popularity of a city that saw no tourism interest during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

I’m Isabelle, and I love to travel.
I first started working as a flight attendant on an international route for a major airline company, but have since made the decision to quit my old job and go traveling full-time.
In addition to being able to explore new places and cultures, I get the privilege of meeting all sorts of interesting people from all over the world. Some are kinder than others, but they’ve all helped me learn about myself in ways that I never would have been able to if I had stayed at home!
