The fast-growing voco brand is expected to open in Seoul in the second quarter of 2022, having already conquered Paris, Singapore and, most recently, Milan. To enter the South Korean market, the contemporary-looking IHG brand will set up shop in the heart of the capital, in the Gangnam business district, also known for its trendy restaurants and high-end shopping centres. Also close to the Coex Convention & Exhibition Center, the hotel will offer 151 rooms and an 85-seat café-bar, as well as three meeting rooms with a total area of 600 square meters.
Serena Lim, IHG’s vice president of development for Southeast Asia and Korea said, ” We are pleased to continue our growth in South Korea with the signing of voco Gangnam, which adds to the momentum we are building after the announcement of voco Pyeongtaek City in July
.” The latter, a 280-room urban resort located in Gyeonggi province, 35 kilometers south of Seoul, is announced for 2023 and will take advantage of the proximity of the main U.S. military base on the peninsula, Camp Humphreys, and all the economic activity revolving around it.
With these recently announced developments in South Korea, IHG now has 19 voco hotels signed in Asia Pacific, including three already open in Australia and Hangzhou, China, with more soon to come in Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand and New Zealand. A short distance from the capital’s main airports, Linate and Malpensa, the voco Milan-Fiere is also located near Fiera Milano and the Italian metropolis’ main business venues, the MiCo Convention Center and the MIND (Milano Innovation District). Previously part of the Barcelo Group, the hotel offers 280 rooms and suites and also has its own convention centre, including seven flexible meeting spaces and a large foyer. With daylight and high-tech facilities, it can accommodate a total of 630 people for events that can be spread over several days.

The voco Milan-Fiere is committed to sustainability and has two bar-restaurants in its vast lobby: the OnFire Grill & Lounge, which, as its name suggests, is a grill, and Ludico Drinks, Food & Play. Here too, the name suggests a place where business travellers can relax over a meal or a cocktail while playing pool, darts or video games. A wellness area with an indoor pool, sauna, steam room and fitness room is also available to guests.
” We are delighted to be the first voco hotel in Italy and to bring a new hotel offer to Milan“, commented Paolo Tirelli, the manager of an establishment that will soon no longer be the only voco in the country. The brand will indeed spread its new spirit near Venice, with the voco Venice Mestre Quid, a hotel of 128 rooms whose opening is planned in 2022.
The opening is part of IHG’s expansion strategy in Italy, aimed at expanding its upscale and lifestyle portfolio. ” We are seeing increased demand for our upscale and lifestyle brands, such as voco and Hotel Indigo, alongside our core brands,” commented Willemijn Geels, VP Development Europe, IHG Hotels & Resorts. While a fourth Hotel Indigo recently opened in Verona, the lifestyle brand, which also has a presence in Rome, Milan and Venice, is also expected to open soon in Florence. At the same time, the British group will also strengthen its offer in Rome with two luxury hotels in preparation in the Italian capital: an InterContinental and a Six Senses urban resort, scheduled to open in 2022.
