The avid and voco

brands vie for the status of the fastest growing brand within the IHG group. While the avid economy brand recently passed the 50-hotel mark with the opening of a hotel at Fort Lauderdale Airport and continues to expand in North America with its first developments in Canada and Mexico, voco continues to add properties around the world month after month. The past few weeks have seen it set up shop in Düsseldorf and Johannesburg as well as in Columbia, Missouri in the United States.

Since its launch in 2018, this upscale, boutique-style brand has already opened or is preparing some 50 hotels, most of which are conversions of existing hotels. At the end of January, after France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Dubai and Singapore, the upscale brand discovered the German market by setting up shop in the central Lörick district of Düsseldorf, near the banks of the Rhine.

The voco Dusseldorf Seestern, with its contemporary decor dominated by yellow tones, offers 160 rooms, all with quality bedding made from recycled materials and organic products on the bathroom side. The whole is completed by the bar-restaurant 38, with a terrace in fine weather, but also, for business travelers, by five meeting rooms equipped for hybrid meetings and able to accommodate up to 140 people.

Another continent, but still the same development dynamic in Africa, where the brand has appeared in Johannesburg, in the lively and arty Rosebank district, with a hotel integrated into a mixed-use real estate complex, but with a predominantly business focus, with the offices of Rand Merchant Investments on its floors, a barber shop and a coworking space, Workshop17, where hotel guests can reserve a workstation and meeting rooms

Business travelers will also find a desk area with USB ports and adapters in all 131 rooms at Voco The Bank Johannesburg, complete with a smart TV and clothes dryers. The hotel also has a restaurant, Proud Mary, and a gym. ” This new opening in the trendy Rosebank district adds to the momentum we are building in the IMEA region with the opening of six Voco hotels in key cities,” said Haitham Mattar, managing director of the region at IHG.
