A priceless cultural heritage on the one hand, with all that urban life can offer in terms of liveliness and appeal; on the other, the invigorating air of the ocean, the great outdoors, and vast forests. Nature and history: Bordeaux has inherited everything to assert itself as a leading international tourist destination. Arguments that are becoming more and more relevant as the art of living and eco-responsibility are two key elements of professional events today.

The Bordeaux metropolis is a vast playground for team-building activities that are as urban as they are natural, but always respectful of social and sustainable issues. For example, business groups can go for a day of cohesion through the Bordeaux underground during a rally with street art, bio and recycling as the main themes. Far from the city, participants can discover the Arcachon basin by electric boat or sailboat.

The

basin reveals all its authenticity at the gentle rhythm of a canoeing trip down the river Leyre, leaving the groups time for an oyster tasting at the charming port of Biganos, in an oyster farmer’s hut.

same way, wine and gastronomy incentives are taking on the game of sustainability, the most famous wine region in the world being able, for example, to lend itself to rallies around organic wines punctuated with locavore picnics. A “slow tourism” to which Saint Emilion has been converted for more than 15 years by making bicycles available to visitors or by creating hiking trails. The UNESCO listed city has completed this “green” offer with tuk-tuk and electric bikes, donkey and horse rides

The Bordeaux Convention Bureau partners have a wide range of proposals in their inventory that will unite participants around essential values for the world of tomorrow. Committed to all these actors, the city promotes these innovative and alternative initiatives with, as a great battle horse, that of being a source of inspiration for eco-travelers and event organizers.

Among its assets, Bordeaux can rely on concrete elements to reduce the ecological footprint of

environmentally friendly modes of transport, such as self-service bicycles, buses and streetcars, including a line that will link the city center to the airport in March 2023, as well as a wide range of eco-labeled hotels, committed caterers and environmentally friendly event spaces

A city with the “Innovative and Sustainable Destination” label

But, to all intents and purposes, the Bordeaux Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau applies to itself the advice it gives to others. While the five convention centers of Bordeaux Events are all ISO 14 000 certified, Bordeaux Tourism & Convention has been awarded the ISO 20121 certification, recognizing the responsible management of its events activity.

Holder of the “Tourism and Disability” label and recently awarded the “Innovative and Sustainable Destination” label along with four other pilot cities and partners of France Congrès et Evénements, the tourism and convention bureau has set itself a course of action based on eight strong commitments such as reducing waste production and the carbon footprint of the destination, promoting an alternative cultural and natural offer and consuming local products

Alongside these environmental priorities, others have a more societal aspect such as the integration of all, Bordeaux Tourism & Convention being the guarantor of the living together through a peaceful relationship between tourism actors, visitors and residents of the city. Thanks to all these efforts, the city is proud to have been included in the top 10 in the Global Destination Sustainability Index. With an overall score of 78%, Bordeaux is ranked ninth out of 72 destinations audited, recognizing the efforts of a sustainable tourism strategy.

However, while the city is giving proof of its eco-responsibility to event organizers, the tourist office is also taking care of what makes people want to come and return to Bordeaux: the quality and warmth of its welcome. To ensure the smooth running of

In order to facilitate the organization of large congresses and optimize the experience of participants, the city already offered many advantages based on certain criteria, ranging from a welcome at the train station or airport to a welcome reception at the city hall and the provision of tourist brochures and transport passes.

Bordeaux Tourisme & Congrès is now working on new advantages such as a hotel charter guaranteeing rates and availability, signed last March, city passes offered to 10 people per congress, and the display of the event on transport lines and places of interest in the city. All of which will leave a lasting impression in people’s memories.
